Why Orbi RBR850 won’t Connect to ONT – Troubleshooting
Orbi RBR850 is a WiFi router from Orbi RBK850 kit that can be connected to various supported modems and ONTs (optical network terminals). But, if your Orbi RBR850 won’t connect to ONT, then you should pay attention to the issue.
Given in this post are the solutions that you need to follow to connect your Orbi router to ONT so that you can peacefully access orbi login portal to perform Orbi firmware update and carry out other networking operations.
Reasons Why Orbi RBR850 won’t Connect to ONT
The topmost reason why you are not able to establish a connection between your Optical network terminal and the Orbi router is that the cable used for the same is damaged. A damaged cable will never help you with the connection. Instead it will increase the latency and in some cases, the connection will become zero resulting in high pings. Thus, it is very important that you use a damage-free cable to connect the ONT and the Orbi RBR850 router. However, if that’s not the reason behind the issue, the following might be:
- The cable might be linked with the wrong ports of your ONT and the RBR850 router
- The connection might be loose
- You are using an incompatible cable to connect your devices
From the above-given points, you can say that the problem lies in the cable connection only. Thus, you should ensure the following in order to resolve the problem:
- The cable should be linked to the correct ports of your devices (Ethernet port of your ONT and the Internet port of the RBR850 router). If you are unsure about the Internet port, then know that it is the one having different color, generally yellow.
- Be very sure that the cable is tightly connected to the respective ports of your WiFi devices.
- Do not use the cable supplied by any local vendor. Use the Ethernet cable that you’ve received with the Orbi package. In case you haven’t got one, be sure that you are using a Cat6 cable.
Fixed: Orbi RBR850 won’t Connect to ONT
Although fixing the cable connection will work in 90 percent of the cases, still we cannot overlook the importance of the rest 10 percent that can stop access to the orbilogin portal. The following techniques should be quickly employed if the connection is still failing:
Restart the Orbi RBR850 Router
The router should be restarted immediately to fix the connectivity problem. Simply, disconnect the power cord of the RBR850 router from its respective outlet and wait for a few minutes. Lastly, reconnect the cable and see if things become perfect. If not, give a shot at the next technique without any delay.
Note: A damaged outlet can also be a potential cause behind the problem you are facing with the Orbi router and ONT connection. Thus, do not make the mistake of using a damaged power outlet for powering up the router or ONT.
Reset the Orbi
The last resort you are left with now is an Orbi factory reset. This will erase the entire customized configuration from the router and allow you to set up the router again. To perform a factory reset, press the Reset pinhole button of the router using a sharp object for 7 seconds.
The Final Words
Here, we tried to explain why your Orbi RBR850 won’t connect to ONT and what can be done to resolve the problem. Hopefully, the methods penned down above will help you regain access to the internet. However, you need to be very sure that there is no other router present in the network.
Also, your ONT shouldn’t be the router itself. The only option in that case will be to set up the router in the AP mode or to enable bridge mode on the ONT which will disable its WiFi thereby preventing the double NAT situation.
