One router and one satellite make up the Netgear Orbi RBK50, a strong mesh WiFi system. It provides strong Wifi signals across an area of up to 5,000 square feet. This item is meant for larger homes or offices. It gets rid of dead zones and enables you to connect to the internet easily in a lot of rooms and floors.

Orbi RBK50 setup: Easy-to-follow Methods

Physical Setup

Locate the units. The router is called RBR50 and the satellite RBS50 that aims to expand coverage.

Connect the modem to the router

• Shut off the modem.
• Connect the yellow ethernet wire to the modem and router WAN ports.
• Go to the router once the modem turns on.
• The router is ready when the router ring LED flashes white and solidifies.

Put the satellite

• Place it 2–3 rooms away from the router, where it is possible for both the devices to transmit signals easily.
• Turn on the satellite; the LED flashes white and then changes colour and different colors mean different:
  • Blue indicates ultimate connection
  • Amber means fair (bring it closer to the router)
  • Magenta means not connected (resync or move)

If magenta stays for long duration, tap Sync on both devices within two minutes. Then the satellites sync up on their own and the LED goes out.

Wired backhaul (Optional):

• For a stronger connection, use an ethernet cable. The mesh will automatically convert to the wired device.

Configuration Via Both App and Browser

A. The Orbi App

• Get the orbi app from either the App Store or the Google Play Store; it works with both iOS and Android.
• Sign in or create a Netgear account.
• You can perform Orbi RBR50 setup by tapping it and scanning the router’s QR code.
• Follow the instructions: check the wires and electricity, then wait for the LEDs.
• Make a new SSID, WiFi password, admin login, and security questions.
• When asked, plug in the satellites and follow the directions for pairing.

B. Browser

• Connect your PC to the Orbi network via WiFi or Ethernet.
• Go to orbilogin.net or 192.168.1.1. Enter admin/password. (Details mentioned on device’s label).
• Launch the Setup Wizard to configure internet settings like DHCP/PPPoE and IPv6.
• After Orbi RBR50 setup, connect satellite by selecting “Add Orbi Satellite,” connecting it in, and pressing the “Sync Button.”

How to update the firmware?

• Get the newest firmware from the official Netgear website.
• Perform Orbi admin login, then to Advanced, then to Administration, and finally to Firmware Update.

How to Reset the Orbi RBK50?

If you have problems and need to start over:

• Use a pin to press and hold the reset buttons on the satellite and router for around 10 seconds.
• Wait for the LED to flicker orange, which means the reset is complete.
• Now, set it up again.

Advanced Settings

Guest Network

Want to allow your friends or visitors use your main equipment without putting them in danger? Turn on the Guest Network. It’s a great idea, especially if your primary channel contains smart home devices or work-from-home data running via it.

Taking care of devices

You can see what is connected by going to Attached Devices. These might be computers, phones, or even a random smart light bulb. If anything appears off or weird, here is where you should start searching.

What do the Lights Mean?

The little LED lights on the Orbi gadgets let you know the actual status of the device:

Router lights

• White light: Starting up
• Solid magenta: Not connected to the internet
• Off: Everything is OK

Satellite light

• Solid blue: The connection is good
• Amber: The link is OK
• Magenta (or flashing magenta): It’s not linked; therefore, you need to move it closer.

If the satellite is always flashing magenta, it’s most likely because there is an issue with the distance or the timing. Take it out of the wall, move it closer, and try again.

How to Restart the Orbi RBK50?

Technology is unpredictable and it is absolutely normal for the devices to break down occasionally. The login isn’t working anymore. The system stops working. Perhaps you have misplaced your password.

A factory reset is simple to perform:

• Collect a pin or a paperclip.
• For around ten seconds, keep the reset buttons on the back of the satellite and the router depressed and held.

Wait for the white LED to start flashing. This means that it is starting again.

This will erase everything, just so you know. Name, password, and settings for the network. You will have to start again from the beginning.

Only use it as a last resort.

Common Problems and Their Solutions

Can’t go to orbilogin.net?

Fix: Use 192.168.1.1 instead. Or see if you’re

You shouldn’t connect to the Orbi network over your mobile data or another WiFi.

The satellite isn’t syncing, which is a problem.

Fix: Move it closer to the router to repair it. Wait three to five minutes. If you need to, turn both machines off and on again.

Problem: WiFi is on, but the internet isn’t.

Fix: Check your modem again to fix the problem. Start by restarting the modem, then the Orbi router, and lastly the satellite. Not yet? It might be the ISP’s fault.

Issue: lag while broadcasting or playing games

Fix: Check for updates to the firmware. Also, check how many devices are connected. You may want to disconnect that old smart speaker that you haven’t used since last Diwali.
