The Orbi RBE771 is a mesh router is a part of Orbi 770 series mesh system. You can connect it easily with the modem through the Ethernet cable and sync satellites with it without any cable.
Here we describe you the whole Netgear Orbi RBE771 setup with login, adjusting settings, troubleshooting and much more. So, let’s start.
Netgear Orbi RBE771 Setup
There are majorly three phases in the orbi router setup: one is modem connection, two is Orbi router login interface for configuration which you can do with the app as well. And three is syncing satellites with the router.
Cable Your Orbi Router with Modem
- Unplug your modem. Unplug the Orbi router. If anything else is plugged in (Ethernet, power, whatever, plug it out.
- Take a standard Ethernet cable. Plug one end into the back of your modem. Plug the other end into the yellow “Internet” port on the Orbi router.
- Plug the modem back in. Give it a minute or two. Let it fully boot. Now plug in the Orbi router. You should see the power light come on, then the ring LED will light up. Wait for it to turn solid white and then pulse magenta.
Login & Install with Orbi App
- Go to the App Store or Google Play, search for Orbi, install it. Open it. Grant the weird permissions. Before starting the setup, you should connect your phone with the Orbi router network.
- The app will prompt you. Point your phone at the QR code that came in the box or is stuck on the router. If it doesn’t scan? Manually type the setup PIN — it’s under the router.
- Inside the app, you have to create the Orbi router network by entering the username and password. Save all the settings and finish the Orbi RBE771 setup.
If you:
- Want to add satellites later. Use the app. It has a “Add Satellite” wizard. Just plug the satellite in, wait for pulsing white, then use the app to sync.
- Want to use bridge/AP mode. That’s in Advanced settings — do that after setup is complete.
Login & Install with Orbilogin.net
Connect to the Temporary WiFi. Look on the sticker on the bottom of the unit — there’s a default SSID and password. Something like ORBI72-XXXX. Hop on that with your laptop. Don’t try to use orbilogin.net yet until you connected with the Orbi router network.
Once you’re on the Orbi’s WiFi, open up a browser and go to orbilogin.net or 192.168.1.1. Once it finally loads, you’ll hit the setup wizard. Pretty standard stuff:
- Create an admin password
- Set your new WiFi network name and password
- Let it check for firmware updates
- Wait for it to reboot (again)
You can use the Orbi app for setup. Honestly, I hate setting up routers via app. If you’re tech-comfy, just stick to the web interface.
Sync Orbi Satellite with RBE771 Router
- Press the sync button on both units. You’ll know they linked when the satellite stops flashing white and turns blue. If it goes magenta/pink, they’re not talking. Move them closer and try again.
- You can also use the Orbi app to sync the satellite. Just access the app in your phone, click Add Satellite, and then you can select the satellite network name to connect.
- The orbi admin login interface also helpful to connect the Orbi satellite with the Orbi RBE771 router. Log into the Orbilogin interface on your computer and Select the Add More Devices button. Interface will search the network and choose the satellite that you want to connect.
How to Fix Orbi RBE771 Not Working Problem?
Reconnect Everything
Connect to your main Orbi router (wired if possible). Log in at orbilogin.com or the IP address (usually 192.168.1.1). Go to Attached Devices. Do you see the RBE771 in the list at all? If not, go to Add Satellite manually and reconnect them.
Update Orbi Firmware
Sometimes, the RBE771 and your base unit are running different firmware versions, and they just refuse to talk. If you can get even a glimpse of the RBE771 in the UI or app, go to its status page and check the firmware version. Match it to your router’s firmware. If it’s off, you’ll need to update it manually.
But here’s how:
- Go to Netgear’s site, grab the firmware for RBE771.
- Connect a laptop directly to the RBE771 via Ethernet (use the LAN port).
- Log in to its IP (might be something like 192.168.1.250).
- Upload firmware manually via the admin panel.
- Reboot.
